22 years Air Traffic and 10 years Airfield Operations...
Alert III's are something most of us will never, ever experience. However, if you do...it is the most important thing most have never spent much time preparing for.
Checklists! Don't have them? Get em ...update em...and USE them. They will save your *ss and possibly others lives.
Yep...it is that important.
Built in problem for III's is that AT rings em as Alert II's (which they are) so everyone is moving (which is the correct thing)...but when it becomes a III everyone one -EVERYONE except Crash/Fire/DPS and OPS, must stop. No more ins/outs or taxi's. Airport closed time. Until Incident commander (whoever that is for your airport) opens whatever parts of the Airport can safely be used...no, zero movement. Way too much going on to play normal airport games.

I am an Airfield Operations Manager and you can find this information listed in ATC pubs, 7110 I believe it is, and also if you can obtain a copy of an Airport Emergency plan, it usually will address the definitions.
